A federal police officer is a law enforcement officer of a federal department or branch of government. Many departments within the government have a law enforcement agency, but only some are explicitly called “police,” for example, the U.S. Army Military Police Corp. Other agencies do not use the word police, like the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but still perform law enforcement duties. Federal law enforcement officers are responsible for the enforcement of laws within the power or authority of their department. Some may also be responsible for the security of department facilities.
