Low childhood literacy has negative long-term consequences, and three-fourths of Arizona's third-graders do not read proficiently. Statistics show that children who are not able to read at grade level by fourth grade are four times more likely not to graduate from high school, and this can contribute to a cycle of poverty.

Join A Strong Partnership

As the first rural affiliate to bring Experience Corps to Pinal County, Achieve Pinal is working with its partners and host communities to recruit community-based volunteers ages 50 and over. The project expanded last fall to include Coolidge Unified and Stanfield Elementary School Districts. Casa Grande Elementary is in the City of Casa Grande, Coolidge Unified is primarily located in the City of Coolidge and Stanfield Elementary serves the community of Stanfield and the Tohono O’odham Nation. Volunteers will serve as academic tutors in the Achieve Pinal Experience Corps 3rd Grade Reading Program.
